Welcome to Parramatta State School.  Our school caters for students from Prep through to year 6.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of country and their continuing connection to land, air and sea. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging who guide us with their knowledge, memories, traditions and cultures, and help to achieve the best educational, wellbeing and life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and staff.

Parramatta State School opened in 1927 and is known as one of the first schools in the Cairns area.  Our students gain the benefit of learning and achieving in the heart of the city and our major feeder high schools are Cairns State High School and Trinity Bay State High School.

The school is committed to working with students and community to build strong 21st century learners. Our motto 'Learning and Achieving in the Heart of the City' coupled with our vision of 'Belong, Learn, Succeed' are always at the centre of what we do at Parramatta State School.

We offer a comprehensive core curriculum program founded upon the eight Learning Areas specified in the Australian Curriculum. English and Mathematics are our priority and additional time is allocated to these subjects, particularly in the areas of Reading and Number development. In addition to these learning areas, Science, HASS, The Arts and Technology play a significant role in learning about our world. Our students are enthusiastic and achieve quality results in Health and Physical Education with a healthy percentage succeeding at State Level. Music and The Arts are taught to all students and some choose to study a wind, brass or percussion instrument through the Instrumental Music program. Students in Years 3 to 6 study Japanese.  We also offer a unique specialist Technologies program.

In addition to the core subjects we offer Academy of Excellence programs in the areas of STEM (Junior and Senior Robotics & STEM projects), Music (Rock Band & Choir) and Sport (Soccer and Netball). These programs have been developed with some key community partners and have alignment to the High School Excellence programs. We are seeing an increasing number of Parramatta State School students be accepted into High School Excellence programs each year since the roll out in 2020.

Parramatta is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school where we focus on teaching pro-social behaviours and applying positive and negative consequences to behaviour. There is a Student Code of Conduct which oulines our school's processes and procedures for expected student behaviour. Our students are taught three the three guiding rules of 'Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be a Learner.

Parents and community members are always encouraged to play an active role in their child's learning and attend parent teacher interviews, community BBQ's and whole school events.  Joining our Parents and Citizens Association is also a great way to stay connected and give back to our outstanding community. At Parramatta State School we create a sense of belonging for not only our students and staff but our families and community as well.

If you would like more information on joining our ever growing, high tech, fast paced school please phone 40428111 to speak with our enrolments team.  We look forward to having you join our Parramatta Family.
